My Students TEACH ME!!

image

I had so much fun teaching  my French, Italian and Dutch students at the Kasteel Van Velm in Belgium! They taught me a few things about grammar that I never knew! I discovered that there is a global language of kindness! I am consistently inspired by my students; their lives, stories and unique views of the world around them. No doubt they are my guiding inspiration within the pages of the books I write!

The last month of 2020 is here!! WOW!!! This past year has provided a lot of "interesting' twists and turns! We are stronger together and our families are the most important relationships we will ever invest our time and love in. Can't take the material things with us....we can take the imprints of beauty left upon our souls through the connectivity of the human dynamic! Cowabunga!!! :-)

MEANWHILE.....share some brilliant novels with the ones you love.....personally, I prefer to read children and young adult books the most...time to read and some java!image

Katie is a normal girl living a normal life, until she falls through a glowing crevice in the sidewalk. She makes a note to herself to avoid glowing crevices in the future.

On the other side of the crevice lies Dreamland, a realm of fantasy and magic, a place where she can let her imagination soar and develop new powers. Katie has no idea why she's there or what she's supposed to do, and she meets other kids also stunned to find themselves in the same realm of mystery. When a strange woman in white appears, Katie and her friends learn that Dreamland is under a threat only they can stop, while the woman "helps" the kids with incomplete instructions and unclear advice that frustrates them enormously.

How to become authors- Writing About the Difficult Things

Elizabeth's thoughts...life... Of all the self improvement books I have read and 'how to' do this or that; it seems that often they have a common theme. Keep a journal, write down your thoughts and don't over think it.  Recently, I took a "Master Class" taught by a renowned author Joyce Carol Oates based on her book; "The Faith of a Writer: Life, Craft, Art" .   One thing that stuck with me was her message that to be a successful author, you have to write about the difficult things. Confronting the taboo topics no one wants to talk about. She suggested that people read to align with life issues that they have no outlet for. I have pondered this notion a bit and what I have come to realize that it is truly much easier to write about the beautiful sunsets and happy events. It takes courage and transparency to write about your own private 'life events.' I am addressing the times in one's life when you thought you would surely die...

It's SOUP Season!!! And there are a lot of different types of soups out there!! Well, being an author and and educator, I seem to use a lot of idioms and metaphors. So, I was thinking of 'soup idioms' and how a few of them spoke to me beginning in November! First I was struck by "to soup something up" while listening to a YouTube guru suggesting I need more exercise!  "Gotta soup up my exercise." ....hhmmm....truer words have never been spoken! I was so motivated that I took the cellophane wrapper off my Jane Fonda VHS aerobic video! Jane and I go way back and she has been packed and moved more times than I care to admit. I guess I should let her go....can't find my VHS player...or the 8 track to play my Foreigner 4 and Toto tracks on...dang where does the time go?!! Did I just hint at my age? Huumppff...think I will have some "Giggle soup!" ( also know as an "old fashioned" alcohol drink) SHOUT OUT LOUD!! I FEEL LIKE WHACKING A ...
